CRS Gives Back: Sonora Vets Helping Vets

Giving back is more than just a work load here at CRS. Everyday we help people in need and each month we give back by vol

This month we recognize Sonora Vets Helping Vets, recommended by CRS employee Tanya. Tanya’s uncle, Russell Carpenter, served three tours of duty in Vietnam from 1971 to 1973 in the U.S. Navy. Russell is a disabled veteran who was treated for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and was diagnosed with throat cancer 7 years ago. Triumphing over cancer and receiving treatment for PTSD, Russell’s need to help his fellow military Brothers and Sisters who serve and have served became a reality in 2014.

Based in Tuolumne County, Sonora Vets Helping Vets operates a thrift store to raise money to help veterans and active duty military with immediate short-term needs such as groceries, furniture, and clothing from the store. Vets Helping Vets also offers education about programs or services in their area, or just a fellow veteran to relate to.

unteering and/or donating to a different charity that makes a positive impact on the community.

Since opening their doors in 2014, Vets Helping Vets has grown in size and moved to a larger location. Vets Helping Vets plans on expanding their organization and opening a veteran’s center for local vets to have a  comfortable place to socialize.
